Overview
The eight residential colleges at the University of New South Wales work to create supportive learning communities and to give students the most worthwhile experience they can possibly have while studying. Academic and pastoral support are key elements of college life.
They provide an environment which is secure, both physically and socially. They are either on the campus or on a street directly opposite it.
Some of Sydney’s finest beaches, the city of Sydney, and Centennial Park, are all easily accessible by public transport from them, or are within walking distance (half an hour to an hour) by those who prefer to exercise.
Students who stay at college save the time that may otherwise be required to shop for food. cook and commute. On the other hand, students are normally expected to contribute to the life of their college, and the colleges normally prefer to accept students who want to actively contribute to college life.
Three of these colleges, under the banner of The Kensington Colleges (TKC) belong to the University; the others each have been developed by different, mainly independent groups. This gives you a wide range of choices.
All college accommodation is fully catered.
There are typically more students wanting to stay at colleges than there are places available. They each have their own selection process. It is helpful to note the timing of their application process and to work within it, rather than waiting until the last moment and hoping for a position.
